Location: Laos ~ Burma ~ Thailand Luang Prabang Overview ~ One Day ~ Around Town ~ Oldest Temple ~ Waterfall ~ Whiskey Village
If you pry yourself out of bed at 6am, you can see monks going out from the many temples for their morning alms round. They traditionally eat a meal once a day, and don't eat solid food after 12, but some times have liquids (water, milk, or whatever they are given).
Some young novice monks trying to sneak a snack of some fruit from the tree.
It's not everyday that you see a novice monk with a machete... (and Lea watching the other monks working on the fruit)
This is in the morning as the rest of town starts to wake up. The streets here don't get too busy in the morning, or during the day. But 6-8pm a couple of them get a bit busy
Around 5pm the night market begins to set up. This is Gee, she sells Chinese Jewelry at the market. She's actually not supposed to sell Chinese goods, just Lao items, but she can't afford to. The way many Asian's invest is by putting any extra money that they might get into buying goods that they can sell. So, what you see on the red cloth here is functionally her life savings. Some days she sells things, some days she doesn't. Some times she even sells things at a loss because a little bit of money is better than none. So, if your ever bargaining in these markets, keep that in mind. Her day job at the museum pays her $1.30 a day, when it has an exhibit available for her to work at.
Once the sun goes down, the rain covers go up, and the lights go on, and locals as well as tourists head to the market to see what's going on! Overview ~ One Day ~ Around Town ~ Oldest Temple ~ Waterfall ~ Whiskey Village
