Bangkok International Airport (BKK)
Welcome to Thailand! Chances are the
first thing you'll see is BKK, the Bangkok
The airport was apparently built on a plot of land outside of Bangkok that wasn't developed because it was one large cobra swamp. I guess they managed to drive them out when they turned it into one large slab of concrete and steel. Now, instead of Cobra's, the first thing you see is this control tower.
To complement the modern looking metal structures they placed landscaped courtyards in several open areas.
The whole front of the terminal area is glass panels... These carry on for at least 5 times the length you see in this picture, and go down for 2 stories (the entrance-highway comes up to the 3rd floor).
Rows, and rows, and rows of international and domestic check ins. Even when the airport is empty it takes more than 5 minutes to walk from one side of this room to the other.
Once you get through all that, you can head towards your gate. But before you get there you enter into a low-romantic-light mall type area filled with lines of Duty Free shops, selling all forms of expensive designer products.
Then once you've past by all those shops, the sky opens up and warm natural light fills the room that brings your journey to the gates.
This corridor takes about 10 minutes to get to this point, and that's when you using the speed-walk tracks (like flat escalators).
